Bears activate RB Khalil Herbert (ankle) from injured reserve ahead of game vs. Lions

The Chicago Bears have activated running back Khalil Herbert off of injured reserve ahead of their game against the Detroit Lions, the team announced Saturday, paving the way for the back to make his return to the field this Sunday.

Herbert, who opened the year as the Bears’ starting RB, has been unavailable for the past month and a half as he worked through an ankle injury.

He had a strong start to the 2023 season, accumulating a team-leading 272 rushing yards before suffering the ankle injury in Week 5.

After missing five games while on injured reserve, Herbert was designated to return to practice this week. After practicing only in a limited capacity on Wednesday, Herbert was a full participant the next two days, culminating in the team’s decision to activate him ahead of Week 11.

While Herbert was on injured reserve, D’Onta Foreman led the group of Bears RBs filling his shoes, starting all five games Herbert missed and recording 80-plus yards in each of the last two weeks.

Now that Herbert has returned, it remains to be seen what the approach will be going forward in regards to splitting time between the two backs and with the rest of the rushing corps, starting with Sunday’s game versus the Lions.

Herbert also isn’t the only Bears starter expected to make his return on Sunday in Detroit. Quarterback Justin Fields, who has been recovering from a dislocated right thumb, is also set to make his first start since Week 6.

Indianapolis Colts NFL Jerseys: CB Brents and TE Ogletree ruled OUT while three starters are QUESTIONABLE

The Indianapolis Colts today released their Friday injury report for Week 10 of the NFL season ahead of their Sunday game against the New England Patriots.

Cornerback Juju Brents has been ruled OUT for Sundays game against the Patriots, due to a quad injury. Brents did not travel with the team to Germany due to injury. With Brents out this week again expect Darrell Baker to get the start in place of him.

Tight end Drew Ogletree has been ruled OUT for Sundays game against the Patriots, due to a foot injury. Ogletree did not travel with the team to Germany due to injury. With Ogletree out this week expect rookie Will Mallory to be active.

Wide receiver Josh Downs been listed as QUESTIONABLE for Sunday’s game against the Patriots. Downs has been dealing with a knee injury for the last two weeks and has missed practice all week because of it. Downs will again be a game time decision this week, if he cannot play then expect Isaiah McKenzie to take his place in the starting line up.

Linebacker Zaire Franklin been listed as QUESTIONABLE for Sunday’s game against the Patriots. Franklin has been dealing with a knee injury that forced him to miss last weeks game against the Panthers. Franklin will again be a game time decision this week but a full practice today looks to give him a huge shot at being available.

Wide receiver Alec Pierce been listed as QUESTIONABLE for Sunday’s game against the Patriots. Pierce has been dealing with an ankle injury this week which limited him in practice on Thursday. Even though Pierce is questionable for Sunday, him being able to practice fully today likely means he should be able to play. If he can’t play expect an elevation from the practice squad to help round out the wide receiver group.

Steelers to wear throwback jerseys vs. Packers; JJ Watt tells team to ‘make ’em permanent’

watt-4.png

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be wearing their throwback jerseys for Sunday’s game against the Packers, and JJ Watt is clearly in favor of it.

In fact, the elder Watt and current CBS Sports NFL analyst feels that Pittsburgh should wear their throwback on a much more frequent basis.

The team announced on Tuesday that they will wear the uniforms for the first time since last year’s Christmas Eve win over Las Vegas when they host the Green Bay Packers this Sunday.

The Steelers are 3-0 in their throwback jerseys that pay homage to the team’s 1970s dynasty. The first win was in 2018 when the Steelers recorded a 33-18 win over the Browns. Pittsburgh then posted a 17-12 win over the Rams wearing the throwbacks in 2019.

Pittsburgh’s throwback jersey, which includes block numbers and does not have the team’s logo on the top left part of the jersey, was initially added to the team’s uniform rotation as part of the franchise’s celebration of the 40th anniversaries of the team’s final two Super Bowl wins during the ’70s. Pittsburgh defeated the Cowboys in Super Bowl XIII while also taking the mantle as the “Team of the Decade.” A year later, the Steelers outlasted a gritty Rams squad in front of the largest crowd to ever witness a Super Bowl (103,985).

Cameron Heyward, who actually conducted Harris’ final interview before his passing, said that the current team wants to honor the ’70s teams by winning whenever they wear the throwback uniform.

“I like the little differences, the little nuances, but it’s similar to our standard jersey because that is the tradition we hold,” Heyward said of the throwbacks, via the team’s website. “You see all of the throwbacks that are out there, and they are cool colors and everything, but we have a rich tradition behind it knowing we won so many Super Bowls here. It’s special to wear a jersey that resembles those.

“This game wouldn’t be what it is today without them. They paved the way for us. We’re just running with it. We are trying to leave the legacy the way they did.”

Atlanta Falcons Place DL LaCale London on Injured Reserve – NFL Tracker

NOV 1 FALCONS PUT LACALE LONDON ON INJURED RESERVE The Atlanta Falcons have placed defensive tackle LaCale London on injured reserve, coach Arthur Smith announced at Wednesday’s press conference.

London prematurely departed last Sunday’s 28-23 loss to the Tennessee Titans with a knee injury. His loss comes two days after the Falcons put fellow defensive tackle Grady Jarrett on injured reserve with a torn ACL.

Atlanta claimed defensive tackle Travis Bell off the Chicago Bears‘ practice squad Tuesday to help restore the sudden lack of interior depth.

OCT 31 VIKINGS NAME JAREN HALL STARTER VS. FALCONS The Atlanta Falcons will once again face a backup quarterback this weekend.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Minnesota Vikings have announced that sixth-round rookie Jaren Hall will start Sunday against the Falcons.

Kirk Cousins was placed on injured reserve with a torn Achilles and the team traded for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Dobbs, but Hall will draw his first NFL start on Sunday.

OCT 30 ARTHUR SMITH TO NAME STARTING QB WEDNESDAY The Atlanta Falcons could have a quarterback controversy on their hands.

After Desmond Ridder suffered a concussion in Sunday’s loss against the Tennessee Titans, Taylor Heinicke relieved him and out-performed him, causing a potential change in quarterbacks.

Coach Arthur Smith told reporters after the game that Ridder’s removal from the game wasn’t based on performance, but he never re-entered the game despite clearing concussion protocols.

Smith told reporters on Monday that he will reveal his starting quarterback on Wednesday.

OCT 29 RIDDER CONCUSSED; HEINICKE IN The Atlanta Falcons are making a change at quarterback.

Desmond Ridder entered the NFL’s concussion protocol and Taylor Heinicke is in at quarterback.

In his first drive, Heinicke threw one pass for seven yards. The Falcons trail 14-6 midway through the third quarter.

OCT 25 LEVIS PREPARING TO START SUNDAY The Atlanta Falcons could be facing a rookie quarterback in his NFL debut on Sunday.

Per NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Tennessee Titans are preparing second-round pick Will Levis to start Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

Ryan Tannehill is dealing with an ankle injury, and second-year pro Malik Willis is on the depth chart, but struggled in earlier opportunities. Now, the Titans have a chance to see what they have in Levis and the Falcons will give him his first taste of the NFL.

OCT 24 FALCONS SIGN LACALE LONDON The Atlanta Falcons are making a small change to their 53-man roster.

According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the Falcons are signing nose tackle LaCale London. In a corresponding move, the team is cutting defensive lineman Eli Ankou.
